NOTAM: Newly engineered coffee cup lids to be used for hot beverages

Attention all bluWave Airlines cabin crews:

As of THURSDAY, 10MAY2012 at 05:30 PT, hot beverages served on all bluWave Airlines flights will be served with new and improved reclosable coffee cup lids designed and manufactured by Dart Container Corporation. These advanced Optima® lids have been engineered to prevent liquid from dripping outside of and/or spilling from the cup. This operational change is being initiated in light of a recent lawsuit with a passenger from Portland, OR who spilt her coffee upon experiencing some unannounced turbulence while the seatbelt sign was illuminated last week.

All members of bluWave Airlines cabin crews will be expected to exclude the discontinued Solo lids from their Minimum Material List (MML) for the galley and replace them with the Dart lids. Solo coffee cups are not being effected by this change as the new lids measure 3.7 inches in diameter–the exact length of a Solo coffee cup’s diameter.
